Standout Jobs surveyed corporate recruiters and HR professionals at 450 companies (mostly small to mid-sized) about recruiting trends for 2009:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <em>Predictably, <\/em>43% of respondents will cut spending on job boards.  The top three areas expected to receive greater emphasis are referrals, company Career website, and internal transfers.  Respondents see social networks and candidate relationship management as the top tools to improve recruiting efforts in 2009.<\/li>\n<li><em>Surprisingly,<\/em> almost half the respondents expect hiring to increase sometime in 2009.  Also a surprise\u2014\u201clack of qualified candidates\u201d came in first among anticipated challenges, followed by \u201cuncertainty in our industry.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><em>Somewhere in between . . .<\/em> Twitter was dead last in the tools category.<\/li>\n<li>Download <a href=\"http:\/\/standoutjobs.com\/site\/recruiting-trends-survey-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recruiting Trends 2009<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also relating to the \u201cwhat\u2019s up\u201d question:  A recent <em>Business Week <\/em>article asserts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/managing\/content\/apr2009\/ca2009043_830365.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cYes, There\u2019s Still a Talent War.\u201d<\/a> Columnist Liz Ryan says \u201cEmployers are starved for solutions. Candidates who bring a world view, focusing on problems and even evaluating possible solutions on the spot\u2014sometimes before Day One on the job\u2014will get hired, candidate surplus be damned.\u201d  Worth pondering whether (a) that is true at your own company, and if so, (b) whether your company\u2019s Careers site gets that message across.<\/p>\n<p>Next, another tidbit on recruiting ROI: Talent management hub Taleo (which offers ROI consulting services, among many other products) has some interesting white papers on the topic.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taleo.com\/research\/ROI.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hidden ROI of Talent Acquisition and Mobility<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And\u2014found while (still) looking for recruiting metrics\u2014this provocative self-assessment tool from Lou Adler: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adlerconcepts.com\/resources\/column\/recruiting\/adlers_crazy_metrics_for_progr.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u201c\u2019Crazy Metrics&#8217; for Progressive Recruiters.\u201d<\/a> Although Adler\u2019s inventive measurements (such as the Maslow vs. Money Index, Gauge of Persistence, and Unsolicited Referral Rate) are intended to evaluate personal productivity, it\u2019s interesting to see what happens if you apply the same tests to a Careers site.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, because I can\u2019t resist, an update on Jack.  As you may know, Mr. Box has recovered from his brush with death and is back at the helm.  But<em> did <\/em>you know that JITB created a standalone website\u2014HangInThereJack.com\u2014for the campaign?  In addition to a series of (hilarious) webisodes that follow the dramatic events surrounding Jack\u2019s coma, the site offers ringtones and badges for the true Jack Fanatic, plus social media links.<\/p>\n<p>And as it turns out, the whole coma campaign was designed to set up a JITB image makeover.
