{"id":35264,"date":"2010-10-14T14:22:48","date_gmt":"2010-10-14T13:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/blog\/?p=35264"},"modified":"2021-01-07T17:58:08","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T16:58:08","slug":"more-candidate-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/more-candidate-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Alphabetical Order:  More about the Candidate Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"pqRight\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Alphabet Block\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Alphabet-Block-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"Alphabet Block\" width=\"250\" height=\"190\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 250px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 250\/190;\" \/><\/div>\n<p>As noted in the previous post about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/does-candidate-experience-matter\/\">candidate experience<\/a>, Peter DeVries offers some interesting suggestions about talent technology in his post on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hci.org\/lib\/overcomplicating-candidate-experience\">Overcomplicating the Candidate Experience<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Problem 1:<\/em> <\/strong> \u201cYou have a compelling story to share with candidates, but based on the current paradigm with <strong>ATS<\/strong> (Applicant Tracking System) providers, you lose much of your ability to tell that story when, where, and how you want to tell the story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Solution:<\/em><\/strong> \u201cSome ATS vendors have recently begun to implement <strong>APIs<\/strong> (Application Programming Interfaces), which enable interaction between the ATS software and other software \u2013 in this case your career website.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Advantage:<\/em> \u201c<\/strong>APIs allow you to control the presentation of data to candidates, while remaining true to your corporate brand.\u201d\u00a0 And you can even use APIs to \u201cembed Employment Brand and EVP information throughout your job listings, not just on static pages in the Career website.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Problem 2:<\/em> <\/strong> \u201cIt is difficult to manage and update all of the information spread throughout your career site. Time passes, business moves on, but the content doesn\u2019t \u2013 instead, it becomes old and stale, another complaint of job seekers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Solution:<\/em><\/strong> \u201cConsider using a <strong>CMS<\/strong> (Content Management System) to help you take control of the information on your career website.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Advantage:<\/em> \u201c<\/strong>A CMS gives you the tools and flexibility to manage how and when content is updated.\u201d\u00a0 For example:\u00a0 \u201cIf you have a big win at your organization, you can easily promote that on the home page of your career website \u2013 yet again strengthening your Employment Brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So how can you take advantage of these technology tips?\u00a0 Problem 1 is not actually all that easy to address, as it turns out.\u00a0 A quick scan of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redmatch.com\/uploads\/magic-quadrant-erecruitment-200912-Gartner.pdf\">Gartner\u2019s 2009 Magic Quadrant for E-Recruiting Software (PDF)<\/a> reveals not much info about this subject.\u00a0 Only <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrsmart.com\/index.php\/solutions\/overview\">HRSmart<\/a> is noted for its API offering, while the Swiss company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netmedia1.com\/products-services.asp\">netMEDIA<\/a> gets plaudits for its \u201cintegration\u201dcapabilities (whatever they may be).\u00a0 Taleo mentions API in promotional literature for its Business Edition, but offers no details.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, there are a lot of candidates for solving Problem 2.\u00a0 A complication arises, however.\u00a0 If your company has an <em>Enterprise<\/em> Content Management system (<strong>ECM<\/strong>), it may have or be compatible with <em>Web<\/em> Content Management systems (<strong>WCM<\/strong>). \u00a0Find out more about this from the trusty <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emc.com\/collateral\/analyst-reports\/2009-gartner-magic-quadrant-ecm.pdf\">Gartner MQ on ECM (PDF)<\/a>.\u00a0 It\u2019s the WCM part you really need for speedy updates to the Careers site, and that functionality may actually be available in the organization\u2014for example, in use by the PR department or Marketing, just not deployed to HR\u2014or might be easily added.\u00a0 If there\u2019s no sort of content management already in place, then the next move is to a standalone CMS\/WCM offering.\u00a0 For more info on this option, browse around at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmswire.com\/\">CMS Wire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If it comes down to spending money on solving either Problem\u2014you\u2019ll need to justify the investment.\u00a0 Coming soon:\u00a0 a post on building the business case for a better Careers site.<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chefranden\/300667066\/\">chefranden<\/a> for the excellent alphabet block.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As noted in the previous post about candidate experience, Peter DeVries offers some interesting suggestions about talent technology in his post on Overcomplicating the Candidate Experience.
