{"id":34455,"date":"2010-08-09T18:32:24","date_gmt":"2010-08-09T17:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/blog\/?p=34455"},"modified":"2021-01-07T15:13:51","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T14:13:51","slug":"social-media-advertising-trusted-less-than-engagement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/social-media-advertising-trusted-less-than-engagement\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Media Advertising Trusted Less than Engagement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-34457 lazyload\" title=\"computer-keyboard-hands\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/computer-keyboard-hands.jpg\" alt=\"computer-keyboard-hands\" width=\"202\" height=\"158\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 202px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 202\/158;\" \/>Results from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/Article.aspx?R=1007852\">new poll<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisinteractive.com\/\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harris Interactive<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.online-publishers.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"blank\">Online Publishers Association (OPA)<\/a> shouldn&#8217;t be too surprising for marketers and brand managers who have been involved with social media marketing in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>According to the study, consumers trust ads on social media sites less than ads on other websites.\u00a0 In fact, only 8% of respondents felt that companies that placed ads on social media sites are reputable.\u00a0 That&#8217;s significantly lower than the 21% of respondents who felt that advertisers on traditional content sites are reputable.\u00a0 Respondents also felt that advertisers on social media sites are less respected and the ads displayed on social media sites are not relevant.<\/p>\n<p>When asked how satisfied they are with various social media sites, the results were somewhat surprising with Wikipedia, a site known for inaccuracies from user-submitted content, ranked quite high.\u00a0 Of course, perhaps respondents have expectations for Wikipedia, accept the possible inaccuracy of information found there, and rated the site with that in mind.\u00a0 Check out the results below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>77% of respondents were satisfied with Wikipedia<\/li>\n<li>73% of respondents were satisfied with YouTube<\/li>\n<li>64% of respondents were satisfied with Facebook<\/li>\n<li>63% of respondents were satisfied with MySpace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The reality is that brands need to engage with consumers on social media sites in a manner that meets users&#8217; expectations for the <em>site<\/em> and for the brand.\u00a0 Social sites aren&#8217;t going away and even if users aren&#8217;t completely satisfied with existing social media sites and tools, they&#8217;re going to keep using them until something better comes along.\u00a0 Until then, engaging with consumers, earning their trust, and building relationships with them on social sites continues to be more effective than advertising on the same sites and continues to present an opportunity that brands shouldn&#8217;t ignore.<\/p>\n<p>You can follow the link to read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/building-brand-trust\/\">building brand trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Image: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sxc.hu\/photo\/614781\">stock.xchng<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Results from a new poll by Harris Interactive for the Online Publishers Association (OPA) shouldn&#8217;t be too surprising for marketers and brand managers who have been involved with social media marketing in recent years.
