--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 200\/173;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The standout story of June was British Petroleum\u2019s handling of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/careers-meets-crisis-bp\/\">\u201cCareers\u201d Meets Crisis<\/a>, posted at the beginning of June, noted that BP\u2019s Careers page remained unchanged more than a month after the crisis began.\u00a0 Not only was there no mention of the spill, the \u201cFeatured job category\u201d highlight extolled opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>A month later, the featured job category is IT.\u00a0 But nothing else on the page has been added or updated to address the ongoing Gulf crisis.\u00a0 Similarly, nothing has been added or updated since the spill on BP\u2019s \u00a0Environment and Society page\u2014which seems like an even bigger disconnect.<\/p>\n<p>However, a few changes <em>have<\/em> been made to the corporate site.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bp.com\/extendedsectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=40&amp;contentId=7061813\">Gulf Response tab<\/a>, which was put in place soon after the crisis began, is now more tightly organized, focusing on technical and practical issues.\u00a0 The level of detail on this page conveys much more effectively the seriousness of BP\u2019s efforts.<\/li>\n<li>Some of the content originally shown on the Gulf Response tab is now on the landing page\u2014so users who navigate directly to the site by typing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bp.com\/\">www.bp.com<\/a> into their browsers (or clicking on a sponsored link) will see Gulf-related material immediately.\u00a0 The page begins with a large photo feature that depicts people at work: cleaning sand, pointing at maps, rescuing birds, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Also on the BP landing page: videos about the company&#8217;s good intentions and positive efforts, along with information links (both contact information and news stories).\u00a0 Overall, the page has a slightly positive spin, but not a pronounced &#8220;PR&#8221;
