{"id":31504,"date":"2010-01-19T09:15:36","date_gmt":"2010-01-19T09:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/blog\/?p=31504"},"modified":"2010-01-19T09:15:36","modified_gmt":"2010-01-19T09:15:36","slug":"e-recruitment-software-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/e-recruitment-software-2\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s What in E-Recruitment Software"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After an extended detour through posts on the best of 2009, the possibilities of 2010, and a couple of hot topics\u2014it&#8217;s time for the next installment of the Gartner Magic Quadrant tour.\u00a0 <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/..\/2010\/01\/e-recruitment-software\/\">As promised!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gartner notes several significant factors influencing the e-recruitment market space: <strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Software as a Service (SaaS)<\/strong> dominates the space, with only 23% of study respondents using installed software\u2014and that portion made up almost entirely of Oracle and SAP<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Vertical markets<\/strong> are getting increasing attention\u2014good example, software with specific workflows that help schools avoid discrimination claims <\/li>\n<li><strong>Holistic talent acquisition<\/strong>\u2014i.e., mixing e-recruitment with \u201ccontingent workforce management\u201d&#8211;is gaining ground, but less than Gartner expected<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vendor consolidation<\/strong> is a noteworthy trend, especially among the leaders\u2014but new vendors (and new ideas) continue to enter the e-recruitment space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>BIG number:<\/em> \u201cAt least 400 vendors offer some form of e-recruitment capability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Gartner Report (<a href=\"http:\/\/peopleclick.com\/tools\/gartner_mq.asp\">have a look<\/a>, compliments of Peopleclick)\u00a0 includes a handy outline of major e-recruitment functionalities; a helpful overview of Magic Quadrant definitions and criteria; and an explanation of what\u2019s changed in the Quadrant since 2008.\u00a0 Most interesting note:\u00a0 \u201cIn this edition of the Magic Quadrant, we have broadened coverage to include more vendors from outside the U.S., and we have also strengthened our weighting for global features and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following up on that point, I\u2019m going through all the vendor evaluations to see which ones are strongest in global implementation, and what that tells us.\u00a0 So it looks like there will be a Part 3 focusing on this important topic.\u00a0 But in the meantime, I\u2019ll focus on the Quadrant group that always interests me most:\u00a0 the \u201cVisionaries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those new to Q-land, the vendors are organized in four groups:\u00a0 Leaders, Challengers, Niche Players, and Visionaries.\u00a0 Visionaries inhabit the quarter that does well on \u201cCompleteness of Vision\u201d (the horizontal axis) and less well on \u201cAbility to Execute.\u201d\u00a0 These vendors generally have something innovative to offer, and it\u2019s not surprising that their one-fourth of the Quadrant is often sparsely populated.<\/p>\n<p>Of the four Visionaries in this report, Kronos is so near being a Leader that I\u2019m not counting it.\u00a0 And that leaves Mr. Ted, Neogov, and Jobpartners.\u00a0 Neogov turns out to do just one thing really well (it\u2019s the \u201cdominant player in the U.S. public sector market\u201d) and both Jobpartners and MrTed are UK-based, with strength in the European markets.\u00a0 Of these two, MrTed obviously wins my personal award for Most Whimsical Name, so let\u2019s drill down:<\/p>\n<p>According to Gartner, MrTed has \u201cdeep and broad functionality, with a strong and innovative product vision, especially in the area of social software.\u201d\u00a0 MrTed has actually just launched its latest product upgrade, which is called <a href=\"http:\/\/mrted.com\/news.php3?id_breve=111\">MrTedTalentLink v9<\/a> (aka, Cloud 9&#8211;yes, really).\u00a0 The product apparently focuses on easy customization.\u00a0 According to MrTed:\u00a0 \u201cIt features a configurable candidate database that can easily integrate data from any source, an independent business logic layer exposed through web services, and an on-demand user interface so recruiters can customize their own workspaces. This open architecture makes it fast and easy to connect with other talent management and HR applications, so users get the full benefit of cloud computing on their desktop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s definitely getting close to a description of e-recruitment heaven.\u00a0 But as for MrTed\u2019s strength in social software, noted by Gartner\u2014I can\u2019t track down what they have in mind.\u00a0 Part of the problem is that the search capability at MrTed\u2019s website doesn\u2019t exactly work.\u00a0 (Results list appears, individual items listed mostly don\u2019t.)\u00a0 But it turns out that MrTed offers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/static\/\">SmartRecruiters<\/a>, a pretty cool and completely free SaaS product that seems to be very social-savvy.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for the Global installment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After an extended detour through posts on the best of 2009, the possibilities of 2010, and a couple of hot topics\u2014it&#8217;s time for the next installment of the Gartner Magic Quadrant tour.\u00a0 As promised!
