\"Transport<\/a><\/div>\n

As we reach the end of my first year in the \u201cCareers Corner\u201d at Corporate Eye, it’s a great opportunity to look back over all the topics that have been covered in the column.\u00a0 We\u2019ve analyzed best practices, explored fundamental issues and emerging trends, cataloged some hits and misses, asked serious questions\u2014and had a little fun.\u00a0 Not a bad way to spend twelve months!<\/p>\n

Year-end lists always seem to be the \u201cTen Best.”\u00a0 (Or \u201cTen Worst,\u201d but I\u2019m not going there.)\u00a0 So that was my goal.\u00a0 But it turns out to be quite a challenge.\u00a0 Just ten<\/em>?\u00a0 So I\u2019ve cheated a bit, and chosen all the series from 2009.\u00a0 Which actually makes sense, since the topics that merited multiple posts were among the most important.<\/p>\n

So here they are, in no particular order:<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Diversity on the Corporate Website<\/strong><\/p>\n

Possibly the most ambitious series this year!\u00a0 The four posts were: \u00a0Hot Topic or Obsolete Concept?<\/a>; Four Strategies<\/a>; The Challenge of Messaging<\/a>; and Disability and Unvisibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Some Really Good Advice<\/strong><\/p>\n

Part 1<\/a> and Part 2<\/a> offer a road-map to John Sullivan\u2019s important series of articles, which add up to 127 suggested features or capabilities for the corporate Careers website of the future.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Surfing the Boards<\/strong><\/p>\n

Exploring a report on job rankings, which provided Thought Provoking Hilarity<\/a>.\u00a0 The first post did the thought-provoking, so the second is called . . . And Now for the Funny<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 A Macy\u2019s Mystery<\/strong><\/p>\n

Part 1<\/a> and Part 2<\/a> investigate the Forrester Report on corporate websites–and consider Macy\u2019s shift from an award-winning charmer of a site to something rather more ordinary.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Talent Acquisition 2009<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three posts on an important study:\u00a0 Considering the Aberdeen Report<\/a>, No Surprises<\/a>, and On the Other Hand . . .<\/a><\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Tick Tock:\u00a0 Recruiting Hourly Workers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Part 1<\/a> and Part 2 <\/a>take a look at what\u2019s true, what\u2019s new, and what works in this challenging segment of the recruitment world.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 Social Media Roundup<\/strong><\/p>\n

An informal series on the most talked-about aspect of recruiting this year:\u00a0 Twitterama<\/a>, Fair Play for Facebook<\/a>, and Leveraging LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Okay, that\u2019s eight.\u00a0 Which leaves just two more.\u00a0 But\u2014why not make it a dozen?\u00a0 And since no one\u2019s stopping me, I\u2019m going with the four I most enjoyed writing!<\/p>\n

9.<\/strong> Funny Business<\/a> (because it has Jack in it)<\/p>\n

10.<\/strong> Exciting Sites<\/a> (because it\u2019s beautiful)<\/p>\n

11.<\/strong> Get the Popcorn<\/a> (because it\u2019s always fun to think about movies)<\/p>\n

12.<\/strong> Silver Linings<\/a> (because it touched me)<\/p>\n

Once I started, this review process got really interesting\u2014so I\u2019m going to follow up with a list of the posts I think were most significant.\u00a0 In the meantime . . .\u00a0 here\u2019s looking forward to 2010!<\/p>\n
