Three Irresistible Ideas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"pqRight\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Oogst-1000.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29675 lazyload\" title=\"Oogst 1000\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Oogst-1000-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"Oogst 1000\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Oogst-1000-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Oogst-1000-150x108.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Oogst-1000.jpg 747w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/217;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Serendipity has led me to several items that are just so interesting I have to share.\u00a0 One actually has practical application, another is a cautionary tale\u2014and the third is an inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with the inspiration, since that\u2019s connected with today\u2019s eye-catching illustration.\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 It\u2019s a completely serious design for a \u201cself-sufficient farm, restaurant, hotel and amusement park for 1,000 people per day.\u201d\u00a0 In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oogst.org\/oogst\/Oogst.org\/Oogst_1000.html\">Oogst 1000 Wonderland<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everything is linked by technology to create a self-sustainable system. <\/li>\n<li>All food for the restaurant comes from the farm.<\/li>\n<li>Visitors can learn about sustainable agriculture while they vacation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The idea comes from Dutch design firm Tjep, and it\u2019s part of a series that includes a house\/farm that will provide one person with everything they need to live: greenhouse-grown food, solar and wind energy, and a completely self-contained oxygen atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Relevance for the corporate website?\u00a0 Surprise your visitors, at least occasionally.\u00a0 Don\u2019t just rely on \u201cCareers page\u201d stereotypes.\u00a0 Add some imagination.<\/p>\n<p>The second item is more practical, although application in the recruiting sector looks to be still in the future.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mingle360.com\/index.html\">Mingle 360<\/a> has introduced a really fun and useful concept\/product\/service that let\u2019s people use a gadget to exchange\/capture information.\u00a0 The \u201cMingleStick\u201d is just a little bigger than a typical memory stick, and as of now, it\u2019s mainly for use at events, such as tradeshows and conventions.\u00a0 Attendees use the MingleStick to click each other instead of exchanging business cards, and back home, they can see\/store\/organize their captured information in Mingle Manager.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also social networking integration with Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.\u00a0 And exhibitors can use a desktop MingleStation receiver that ties lead retrieval into the total package.<\/p>\n<p>Some of my favorite career experiences have been associated with the tradeshow industry\u2014and as a veteran on both sides of the aisle, I just see Mingle as a great idea. The current business model seems geared toward very large events (1000+), but it appears there would be a natural potential for use in more specialized settings, such as job fairs and career events.\u00a0 I\u2019ve asked the company for additional information (including some ideas about cost-effectiveness) and will provide more Mingle info in a subsequent post.<\/p>\n<p>The final idea is really only half-irresistible, but that was too long to explain in the post title.\u00a0 <em>Mine Magazine<\/em>, a personalized\/customized print\/online delivery platform from Time, Inc., got decidedly mixed reviews in its early outings.\u00a0 A few folks <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2219063\/\">liked it<\/a> much more than they expected to, while others <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nxtbookmedia.com\/main\/28\/mine-magazine-the-digital-review\/\">really didn&#8217;t<\/a>\u2014and (as far as I know) there\u2019s no telling yet whether the project will progress, morph, or die.\u00a0 But there <em>is<\/em> something important to consider about the attempt itself.\u00a0 That being:<\/p>\n<p>Everyone recognizes that the whole process of information delivery is changing fast.\u00a0 Some of the familiar methods taken for granted in the past (print newspapers, for example, and broadcast television) are going to change radically in the future, while \u00a0some of the newer formats we rely on today (like the website!) are already losing their effectiveness.\u00a0 So every smart company is looking for ways to change <em>ahead<\/em> of the curve, rather than falling behind.<\/p>\n<p>The conventional corporate website is beginning to take on a \u201cvintage\u201d look&#8211;and nowhere is that more apparent than in the Careers sector.\u00a0 What&#8217;s the plan at <em>your<\/em> company for the evolution of web presence?<\/p>\n<p>2010 is just around the corner . . .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Serendipity has led me to several items that are just so interesting I have to share.\u00a0 One actually has practical application, another is a cautionary tale\u2014and the third is an inspiration.
