. . . can&#8217;t leave out LinkedIn.\u00a0 LinkedIn is the social media platform that really <em>was<\/em> designed for business, and it has some powerful capabilities, especially in terms of locating passive candidates and recruiting executives.\u00a0 But nowadays there&#8217;s a lot more to consider in constructing a social media strategy, so it&#8217;s important to see how these three players fit together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ere.net\/2009\/06\/15\/recruitings-smart-experiment-with-social-media\/\">Recruiting&#8217;s Smart Experiment with Social Media <\/a> offers a flyover of the whole social media landscape, with lots of examples and links.\u00a0 Excellent starting point.<\/p>\n<p>Now drill down&#8211;way down&#8211;with Computerworld&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/s\/article\/9065398\/Facebook_vs._LinkedIn_Which_is_better_for_business_?taxonomyId=16&amp;pageNumber=1\">Facebook vs LinkedIn<\/a> smackdown.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a bit ancient, having come out last year, so there may be features\/capabilities not noted.\u00a0 But the article explores six real-life business scenarios (such as &#8220;research a company you&#8217;re interviewing with&#8221; or &#8220;find a contract resource&#8221;), explains how each platform could be used as a tool in that scenario, and declares a winner.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve already done several posts about using LinkedIn for recruiting, and it&#8217;s quite easy to find opinions and advice on this topic, so I won&#8217;t go over old ground.\u00a0 But here are a couple of news items:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/ari-herzog\/12-ways-to-use-linkedin-t_b_260472.html\">12 Ways to Use LinkedIn Today<\/a> offers a dozen smart tips for making the most of any LinkedIn presence.\u00a0 Remember&#8211;LinkedIn is a two-way street, which means that recruiters and companies have to be just as sharp and savvy as job seekers!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/news\/pcworld\/20090813\/tc_pcworld\/sapofferslinkedinrecruitmenttoolstochannelpartners_1\">SAP just announced a special LinkedIn app<\/a> for its channel partners.\u00a0 Not entirely clear how good the value proposition is, since pricing has not been announced&#8211;but companies desperate to find those elusive SAP all-stars may find it worthwhile.\u00a0 And more to the point, this looks like a harbinger of more LinkedIn link-ups to come.<\/p>\n<p>Last stop on today&#8217;s tour . . . visit the buffed-up <a
