I&#8217;ve looked (and looked and looked) for a good introduction to the magical powers of Facebook for business, but I&#8217;ve come up empty.\u00a0 The &#8220;basics&#8221; of Facebook resolve down to get an account and poke around.\u00a0 Which could be worth the time if you want to get a feel for the experience.<\/p>\n<p>And\/or for a refresher on social media in general, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ere.net\/2009\/07\/22\/social-media-a-primer\/\">here&#8217;s a primer<\/a> from HR consultant Kevin Wheeler.\u00a0 (And it&#8217;s worth a stop at the home page of Wheeler&#8217;s company to see the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glresources.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">virtual version<\/a> of Kevin.)<\/p>\n<p>Now we&#8217;ll go on to some more specific material about Facebook:<\/p>\n<p>First, what&#8217;s new with Facebook.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a very current topic, due to the fairly recent acquisition of FriendFeed by Facebook.\u00a0 If that statement doesn&#8217;t have meaning for you, don&#8217;t worry about it&#8211;just jump in with Jeremy Owyang&#8217;s excellent post on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/main\/17\/the-future-of-facebook\/\">The Future of Facebook<\/a>.\u00a0 Short version:\u00a0 More like Twitter.\u00a0 (While at Jeremy&#8217;s Web Strategy site, check out this post on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/main\/13\/data-indicates-facebook-reaching-mainstream-visitor-rate-compete-alexa-quantcast\/\">Facebook traffic<\/a>, and listen to a podcast on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/\">Facebook Connect for Business.)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And just as I&#8217;m writing, there&#8217;s another bit of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.cnet.com\/8301-13577_3-10310770-36.html?tag=mncol;title\">breaking news<\/a>:\u00a0 The Huffington Post has implemented Facebook Connect in a new service called HuffPost Social News, which &#8220;aggregates Huffington Post stories that a given user&#8217;s Facebook friends have recommended or commented on, and shares the user&#8217;s Huffington Post activity on their Facebook profiles in turn.&#8221;\u00a0 It will probably take a while to judge the significance of this move.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, on a more practical note, browse these two round-ups:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ducttapemarketing.com\/main\/10\/5-tips-for-getting-more-from-facebook\/\">5 Tips for Getting More from Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/webworkerdaily.com\/2009\/07\/21\/32-ways-to-use-facebook-for-business\/\">32 Ways to Use Facebook for Business<\/a>.\u00a0 Both are targeted (like most of what&#8217;s available about Facebook) for small businesses and entrepreneurs rather than big companies, but they offer a general flavor plus some handy information.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, follow up on Facebook for recruiting.\u00a0 Two good posts from ere.net:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ere.net\/2009\/01\/30\/realizing-the-power-of-facebook\/\">some candid remarks on Facebook for business<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ere.net\/2009\/07\/28\/app-can-make-facebook-recruiter-friendly\/\">a quick overview of recruiting apps for Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But nothing beats real life, so drop by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ernstandyoungcareers\">www.facebook.com\/ernstandyoungcareers<\/a> to see how things are working out for Ernst &amp; Young.\u00a0 They got a lot of publicity when they ventured out on the Facebook ledge to court college students a couple of years ago, and interestingly enough, it looks like they have 30,731 fans as of today . . .<\/p>\n<p>For a <em>really<\/em> zippy look at the E &amp; Y approach, watch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.60secondmarketer.com\/More60SecondVideos\/NewandEmergingMediaVideos\/howstarbucksande.html\">How Ernst &amp; Young and Starbucks Use Social Media<\/a>, from 60SecondMarketer.\u00a0\u00a0 One minute well spent, actually!<\/p>\n<p>There certainly isn&#8217;t as much how-to (or even why-bother) lore for Facebook as for Twitter, but that gap may start to close soon.\u00a0 To get a more substantive grasp of this particular match-up, read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitip.com\/twitter-versus-facebook\/\">Twitter Vs.
