{"id":28531,"date":"2009-08-10T01:52:08","date_gmt":"2009-08-10T00:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/blog\/?p=28531"},"modified":"2009-08-09T18:06:04","modified_gmt":"2009-08-09T17:06:04","slug":"nickelodeon-says-no-to-slime-and-yes-to-boring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/nickelodeon-says-no-to-slime-and-yes-to-boring\/","title":{"rendered":"Nickelodeon Says No to Slime and Yes to Boring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nick.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nickelodeon<\/a> is the children&#8217;s television network that has long been linked to slime.\u00a0 While the programming on Nickelodeon has moved further from slime gags in recent years, the brand and the substance will be forever linked.\u00a0 However, the connection is no more as far as the Nickelodeon logo is concerned.<\/p>\n<p>The iconic splat symbol that identified Nickelodeon as the fun network for kids has been replaced with a boring wordmark.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28541 lazyload\" title=\"nickelodeon_logos\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/nickelodeon_logos.jpg\" alt=\"nickelodeon_logos\" width=\"357\" height=\"144\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/nickelodeon_logos.jpg 357w, https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/nickelodeon_logos-150x60.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/nickelodeon_logos-300x121.jpg 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 357px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 357\/144;\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearall\"><\/div>\n<p>I don&#8217;t have a problem with Nickelodeon updating its logo, per se.\u00a0 Clearly, the brand is being repositioned as what I have to assume is a bit more grown up than the splat icon communicated.\u00a0 With<em> <\/em>Hannah Montana and The Jonas Brothers rocking the Disney Channel, it&#8217;s not surprising that Nickelodeon wants to up the ante and get on a more level playing field with its competitor.<\/p>\n<p>According to Nickelodeon, the new logo design was simply a move to bring the various sub-brands under the same symbol for consistency.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not buying it.\u00a0 Such an extreme change signals more than just looking for consistency.\u00a0 What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the real reason why Nickelodeon changed its logo, I can&#8217;t get past that font.\u00a0 Why is there a lone capital K?\u00a0 Why does the kerning look so odd?\u00a0 Or is that just an optical illusion because of the lame font?\u00a0 And where have I seen that font before?\u00a0 I can&#8217;t place it but that hideous &#8216;n&#8217; rings a bell.<\/p>\n<p>All I know is I wouldn&#8217;t want to have to reproduce that logo at an extremely small size.\u00a0 There is no doubt the white space in the &#8216;e&#8217; would disappear.<\/p>\n<p>Your thoughts?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nickelodeon is the children&#8217;s television network that has long been linked to slime.\u00a0 While the programming on Nickelodeon has moved further from slime gags in recent years, the brand and the substance will be forever linked.\u00a0 However, the connection is no more as far as the Nickelodeon logo is concerned.
