--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/95;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My first reaction to the new Vancouver Convention Center logo when I saw it on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.underconsideration.com\/brandnew\/archives\/a_logo_made_out_of_water_light.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brand New<\/a> blog was &#8212; yikes, that looks really cold!\u00a0 I suppose that makes sense, because it certainly is cold in Vancouver, however, in my mind, that translates into &#8212; I don&#8217;t want to go there.\u00a0 I&#8217;m assuming that&#8217;s not the message the Vancouver Convention Center wants to send out.\u00a0 But enough about my hatred of all things cold.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s get back to branding.<\/p>\n<p>When I look at the new Vancouver Convention Center logo, a few red flags are immediately raised:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>This logo will be a b*!ch to reproduce in a variety of formats.\u00a0 Think of the standard corporate giveaways such as\u00a0embroidered golf shirts, hot stamped coffee mugs, and so on.\u00a0 Forget the occasional half tone.\u00a0 This logo is ALL half tones!<\/li>\n<li>This logo would have worked well for the Titanic.<\/li>\n<li>This logo looks like someone used Word Art in PowerPoint with a standard texture applied to it.<\/li>\n<li>This logo looks a lot like the logo and title page for <em><a href=\"http:\/\/dsc.discovery.com\/fansites\/deadliestcatch\/deadliestcatch.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadliest Catch<\/a><\/em> on the Discovery Channel.\u00a0 I love that show, but I don&#8217;t love this logo.<\/li>\n<li>This logo reminds me of the cover to <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Perfect-Storm-True-Story-Against\/dp\/0393337014\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1241982115&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Perfect Storm<\/a><\/em> by Sebastian Junger.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11681 lazyload\" title=\"deadliest-catch-title\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/deadliest-catch-title.jpg\" alt=\"deadliest-catch-title\" width=\"250\" height=\"146\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/deadliest-catch-title.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.corporate-eye.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/deadliest-catch-title-150x87.jpg 150w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 250px;
