Go Back To School–Online And Free

September 10, 2008

In a recent post I wrote about rapid or informal learning that takes place anywhere, anytime and anyplace. Now I would like to direct you to some worthy sites.

One of the best in terms of an amazing variety of subjects is MITOPENCOURSEWARE. This site offers free access to course material. You are on your own — no instructor, but everything is free. No registration is required.

Another comprehensive site is Connexions

Connexions is:

a place to view and share educational material made of small knowledge chunks called modules that can be organized as courses, books, reports, etc. Anyone may view or contribute:

  • authors create and collaborate
  • instructors rapidly build and share custom collections
  • Learners find and explore content

It offers a variety of formats, from full courses to standalone references. It also offers resources to develop your own course. The site does require registration but you don’t get annoying e-mails, just periodic updates.

A somewhat more eclectic site is WizIQ. Subjects are comprehensive. Content is mostly presentations but there are free online courses that are offered by instructors. Registration required and the site has tools to develop courses.

Another good site with many subjects and varying delivery formats is Merlot.

Registration is free but is not required to access content.

Now you have the resources to easily update or learn your skills.

I realised that half of these sites listed are helpful if you would like to learn, or help with a school subject. But they do not offer a free highschool diploma to undergraduates. Is this true? and if so, where can I get a diploma online for free, especially being under the age of 18 (17) where the school can get paid by the governmant for having me enrolled. In need of something FAST I need to graduate on time!! HELP!!!

    Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for you comments. Seems you are adapting to those trials that life
    throws you.
